# Getting Started

Creating your 1send account for owners, marketers, and agencies.

### What is 1send?

1send is a messaging tool that helps you broadcast DMs to re-engage customers.

With 1send, you can track events and contact properties and then use that information to send messages to increase revenue, engagement or just generally improve your branding.

**Let’s get started ✨**

What we’ll be covering…

1. [Connect your Facebook Page to 1send](#id-1.-connect-your-facebook-page-to-1sen)
2. [Initiate Messenger subscriptions](#id-2.-initiate-messenger-subscriptions)
3. [Collect subscribers](#id-2.-collect-subscribers)
4. [Send your first Messenger campaign](#id-3.-send-your-first-messenger-campaign)
5. [Integrate your Shopify store (optional)](#id-4.-integrate-your-shopify-store-optional)&#x20;

### 1. Connect your Facebook Page to 1send

The first step is to have a Facebook Page and connect it to 1send. This way you can send messages through 1send. You need to this before building a Facebook Messenger subscription list.

We send from you Facebook Page so your messages appear as if they are coming from you.

<figure><img src="/files/S0UGR1lW4LRDjwuqzC1s" alt=""><figcaption><p>Connect Facebook Page to 1send</p></figcaption></figure>

To set up your Facebook Page in 1send, you to need to have "Messages and calls" permission. Read how to [check your Facebook Page permission](/learn/facebook/checking-page-permissions).

Once you've connected your Facebook Page, you'll be able to send messages!&#x20;

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Connect your Facebook Page</strong></td><td>Read our guide for detailed steps.</td><td><a href="/pages/lZx6PePLzRr91PFKq1Jt#initial-facebook-page-setup">/pages/lZx6PePLzRr91PFKq1Jt#initial-facebook-page-setup</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

### 2. Initiate Messenger subscriptions

After connecting your Facebook Page, you need to initiate your subscription list on Facebook. To do this you need to be the first subscriber of your Messenger list.

Send "1sendRegistration" to your Facebook Page in Messenger and a subscribe prompt should appear. After you click "Get updates" then setup is complete!

<figure><img src="/files/DroDMxxZGkMrxccz7jyl" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### 3. Collect subscribers

To send messages to Facebook users, they will first need to subscribe and opt-in to messages.

{% hint style="info" %}
Messenger subscribers are not the same as page followers or likes and must be explicitly provide by the Facebook user.
{% endhint %}

#### Contacts

Contacts are unique Facebook users in your 1send audience. We use their Facebook account to identify and distinguish contacts.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/QGKaf2H0yqrsgJRx1pih" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

#### Contact Properties

Contact properties are pieces of information associated with a contact. Facebook provides default properties like name, gender, time zone, and language.

<figure><img src="/files/sP0I2WvRbh8jIUAS8DFN" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can use contact properties to segment your audience and send more targeted and relevant messages to specific contacts.

For example, you can send separate campaigns in different languages based on the users language preference. &#x20;

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards" data-full-width="false"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Get Subscription Link</strong></td><td>See how you to use 1send subscriptions links.</td><td><a href="/pages/fCC70wBxa3lJpNyOA7oe">/pages/fCC70wBxa3lJpNyOA7oe</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Get Subscribers</strong></td><td>Read other ways to get subscribers</td><td><a href="/pages/4dDsJcN5oBJtMY1YCxRF">/pages/4dDsJcN5oBJtMY1YCxRF</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

### 4. Send your first Messenger campaign

**Campaigns** are a single broadcast sent to your audience (e.g. product launches, sales, teasers). They can be sent immediately to any subscribed contact or scheduled for a future time.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/t4PiEQZhs6KC2U2q95i5" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Messages can include image or video to make your messages more unique and eye-catching. Additionally you can include a call-to-action button like "SHOP NOW" to link the subscriber to an external site. [Read more](/learn/creating-a-campaign)

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards" data-full-width="false"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Create Campaign</strong></td><td>Read about 1send's campaign builder</td><td><a href="/pages/HgYAI2FvSngzQHFUluBq">/pages/HgYAI2FvSngzQHFUluBq</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Types of Messages</strong></td><td>Learn about message types</td><td><a href="/pages/KGFiFx15QeFxn3Fruv8j">/pages/KGFiFx15QeFxn3Fruv8j</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

### 5. Integrate your Shopify store (optional)

1send built and launched an app on the Shopify App store. Connecting your 1send account to your Shopify store is optional and comes with the following benefits:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Revenue Attribution

1send can then identify the amount of incremental revenue each campaign generates in your Shopify store
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Campaign Segmentation

Additional customer data like site engagement and purchase history can be used to better target your subscribers.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

# Types of Messages

### Campaigns

A campaign is the right type of message for a one-off send to your audience or a segment of your audience.

**Examples:**

* Promotion / Sale
* Product Update / Launch
* Customer feedback requests

For more information on sending you first campaign, [visit this guide](/learn/creating-a-campaign).

### Flows (Coming Soon)

A flow is a message that is triggered by a specific event or condition.

**Examples:**

* Welcome series
* Post-purchase
* Abandoned cart

# Facebook

1send is built ground up to be compliant with Meta's messaging rules. Meta enforces constraints on 3rd party solution providers to protect the Facebook user experience and **protect users from spam**.

### 24-hour message rule (Standard Messaging Window)

Meta's traditional policy is the 24-hour rule, also known as the standard messaging window. After 24 hours have passed **since a contact’s last interaction with a Facebook Page**, the Facebook Page is no longer allowed to send them messages.

Because of this restriction, most messaging solutions available are focused on customer service tasks. For example, a user can initiate a conversation with the Facebook Page asking for more details on a product or sale, which starts the 24-hours window to respond.

Therefore it was previously impossible for a Facebook Page to reach out to a user outside of the 24-hours and remain compliant with Meta's policies.

### 1send Messenger Subscriptions

Messenger subscriptions are the newest guidelines Meta released to enable businesses to message customers outside of the 24-hour rule, which is what 1send is built on. A Facebook Page can now initiate the conversation. Shifting the use case to sending promotional messages instead of customer service messages.&#x20;

Consistent with the 24-hour rule, **Meta does enforce constraints for Messenger subscriptions**.

1. **Consent required to message**. The Facebook user must provide an explicit opt-in before the business can send them messages. This is similar to SMS/email marketing consent requirements. 1send streamlines this with subscription URL links.
2. **One message per day.** Each Facebook user can only be sent a messaged once per day as a Messenger subscription. However, if they respond back then the 24 hour rule is effect and the business can freely reply.

In practice, constraints like explicit opt-in ends up benefitting the Facebook Page since users that knowingly and willingly consent to receiving your messages are also more likely to convert because subscribing signals intent.

# Manage Facebook Page Connection

When you set up your account for the first time, you need to connect your Facebook Page in order to start sending messages. We’ll be sending message on your behalf, so we need the correct permissions from your Facebook Page.

{% hint style="warning" %}
User must have "Messages and calls" permission for the Facebook Page. Read how to [check your Facebook Page permission](/learn/facebook/checking-page-permissions).
{% endhint %}

### Initial Facebook Page Setup

The button is available in the **onboarding step** when you first register an account. Clicking the button creates the initial connection between 1send and your Facebook user account, where permission can be granted.

<figure><img src="/files/aBsRpCjgPqURAUYpbiAh" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Update Facebook Page Connection

When you create or gain access to a new Facebook Page, you will need to provide permission to 1send to send messages on the Facebook Page's behalf. Go to **Settings → Account** and click the "Manage Page" button. This will allow you to grant permission to the new Facebook Page&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/T4Dp9jFservPdha61r1h" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

# Checking Page Permissions

In order to send message on Facebook, you must first have the appropriate access to the Facebook Page. In this case, it means access to "Messages and calls" permission on the Facebook Page.&#x20;

![](https://lh7-us.googleusercontent.com/IuRi6j87YZe9hb11Lfa4hG7VXC8KhsWLIEAEmARVtxzR6KDVYeuB36hsJp5JvsTr_jdEJAe35csoV-CS6MLFC0Xbcuiyh079RAno8_UXO7i633d5dzk2p836xpdnRTI6qr6L3W6_zLtKn0KpDbsnlZE)

To check:

1. Go into business manager: <https://business.facebook.com/settings>
2. Go to Accounts > Pages to view and edit permissions

# Analytics

Go to **Campaigns** in the navigation bar to get a view on the success of your campaigns.&#x20;

<figure><img src="/files/Km0umNEPhZ8lKZHNkCeC" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### Metrics

1send performance can be measured with following metrics.

<figure><img src="/files/vOrskP3MqQwtmpEKbTWk" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Recipients

The number of Facebook users the message was sent.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Read (24 hours)

The number of Facebook users that read your message within 24 hours of it being sent.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Read (7 days)

The number of Facebook users that read your message within 7 days of it being sent.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Unique Clicks

The number of Facebook users that have clicked on the button included in the message.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Only clicks to buttons are counted.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Revenue

The order value of sales attributed to the 1send campaign. [Learn more.](/learn/analytics/revenue-attribution)
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

# Revenue Attribution

Attribution helps you better identify which messages are more successful at driving the ultimate goal, revenue conversion.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Revenue attribution is possible only if the Shopify app is installed. [Read more](/guides/integrations/shopify)
{% endhint %}

### Default Attribution Window

By default, 1send calculates attribution based on if a subscriber clicks the message link and makes a purchase within 7 days. But you can [adjust these windows](#adjust-attribution-window) in your account settings.

Using the default settings as an example:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Day 1

Message is sent to your subscriber and they open it.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Day 2

The subscriber opens the message again and clicks the message link to a product offer.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Day 5

They ultimately come back and purchase the product.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

In this example, the purchase is attributed to message campaign since it's with 7 days of the subscriber clicking the link. However, if the customer were to make the purchase on day 10, then this would not be attributed to 1send.

### Adjust Attribution Window

You can change the attribution window days by going into **Settings → Account**

<figure><img src="/files/sWgApEK2MxhMqBRZUAWW" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Change the number of days and click **Save**

# UTM Tracking

### What is UTM Tracking?

UTM parameters are small codes added to the end of links that help Google Analytics and other site traffic tracking tools to identify where your visitors originated from. By adding UTM parameters to your 1send messages, you can better understand how 1send contributes to your overall traffic and conversions.

### Using UTM Tracking in 1send

While there are 5 default UTM parameters available in Google Analytics, of which `utm_source` and `utm_medium` are always be turned on. The remaining 3 are `utm_campaign`, `utm_id`, and `utm_term`.

#### Recommended Values

<table><thead><tr><th>Parameter</th><th>1send Value</th><th width="100">Required?<select><option value="ISF8Pm6fdSw4" label="Yes" color="blue"></option><option value="DWg7wyKemFfy" label="No" color="blue"></option></select></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>utm_source</td><td>"1send"</td><td><span data-option="ISF8Pm6fdSw4">Yes</span></td></tr><tr><td>utm_medium</td><td>"campaign"</td><td><span data-option="ISF8Pm6fdSw4">Yes</span></td></tr><tr><td>utm_campaign</td><td>{Campaign_name}</td><td><span data-option="DWg7wyKemFfy">No</span></td></tr></tbody></table>

**Parameters**: `?utm_source=1send&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=year-end-sale/`&#x20;

**Original Link**: <https://www.1send.net/>

**With UTM Parameters**: <https://www.1send.net/?utm_source=1send&utm_medium=campaign&utm_campaign=year-end-sale/>

# Get subscription link

1send subscriptions is based on a Messenger URL. After completing account setup, you can find your subscription URL in "**Growth**" page. This URL can then be distributed in emails, as a QR code at [offline events](/guides/getting-subscribers/offline-qr-code), or buttons on your landing page.

<figure><img src="/files/XH3VAUe5ne4PekEpmCts" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

When a user clicks subscription URL, an opt-in modal is shown where the user can choose to subscribe or not. Below is a screenshot of the opt-in modal. Note the icon and name would be from your Facebook Page

{% endhint %}

# Sending Previews

It's recommended to send a preview to yourself before broadcasting your campaign to your subscribers.&#x20;

### How does 1send work?

1send is built like email and SMS marketing tools. It consists of 3 main aspects: subscribe, broadcast, and analyze.

<details>

<summary>1) Subscribe</summary>

1send subscriptions is based on a Messenger URL. After a user clicks the URL they are show. a clear opt-in modal with the option to subscribe or not. More information:

</details>

<details>

<summary>2) Broadcast</summary>

1send's campaign builder creates the message to send to your audience. It supports multimedia files and URL link as buttons. More information:

</details>

<details>

<summary>3) Analyze</summary>

1send's analytics tools shows how many people opened and read your campaigns for data-driven decision making. Read receipts are received directly from Meta and accurate.

</details>

### How is this different from Manychat (& other chatbots)?

1send and Manychat both use Facebook Messenger as a channel but their fundamental purposes are different.

* Manychat is a chatbot, where the user designs a logic tree that the customer triggers. In other words, it's **reactive** and use cases are around customer service/FAQs.
* Whereas 1send isn't a bot but a broadcasting tool. It creates **proactive** messages that the business can initiate. The main use case being promotions.

### Pricing:

Simple, straightforward pricing: <https://www.1send.net/pricing>. No commitments or credit card needed to try.

### What about Meta's 24 hour follow-up rule?

Marketing on Facebook Messenger has traditionally is difficult because of the "24 hour follow-up" rule. Which means a Facebook Page, or business, can only message a Facebook user if the user has interacted with them in the prior 24 hours.&#x20;

The purpose is to protect against spam and preserve Facebook's user experience. Unfortunately, this limited businesses to mainly responding to questions like how chatbots work. **The 24 hour follow-up rule is still in effect**.

However, to empower businesses with Facebook Messenger, Meta has built new subscription capabilities, which is what 1send is built on. Subscribers must first opt-in to messages from the business. Afterwards, the business can message the user even outside the 24 hour window.

### Will 1send messages be considered spam?

Spam is a key concern for Meta and 1send. The following precautions are taken to prevent spam:

* Clear consent is required for subscription
* Brands are restricted to sending each subscriber only 1 message every 24 hours
* There is an easy way to unsubscribe.

### Does 1send violate Meta's policies?

No. 1send is built on Meta's APIs and is compliant.

# Client account setup

1send's permissions are built on Meta's permissions. This way a client only needs to update permissions in Meta's business tools and the permission changes will be reflected in 1send. Access is more secure.

Therefore, to manage a client's 1send account they must first grant the agency permissions on their Facebook Page. There are 2 different way a client can grant access:

<figure><img src="/files/z28aGi48ZnhnI5Ponxw2" alt=""><figcaption><p>Grant users access in Meta Business Settings</p></figcaption></figure>

# Getting Subscribers

The first step to retention marketing is building a list of subscribers interested in hearing more from your business. While there are many methods this can be done, in this section we'll explore some that have worked for users.

# Website integration

A website is your online identity to the world. Your visitor can be some of your most qualified leads. They might not make a purchase immediately but converting a subscriber can allow you to keep in contact with them.

Below are places you can include your subscription link. Please note this list is in order of increasing intrusiveness and may impact your visitor's experience.

* **Footer** - Add a signup link at the bottom of your web pages in the footer. Visitors who scroll through your content may notice it and subscribe.
* **In line content** - Insert a signup link within the content of your web pages, especially on high-traffic pages or where you discuss products, services, or promotions.
* **Floating banner** - Have a persistent, fixed bar at the top or bottom of the screen that contains the signup link. This ensures visibility as visitors scroll.
* **Slide-in boxes** - Use a slide-in box that appears from the corner of the screen as users scroll down the page.
* **Pop up** - Trigger a popup when a visitor is about to leave your site. This can capture the attention of users who might otherwise leave without subscribing.

# Social media

Each social media platform has it's own rules and methods for posting links. Below are popular platforms and where you can add your 1send subscription link.

### Facebook

Facebook is the perfect place to share your 1send subscription link since it is the same channel 1send messages are sent. Facebook allows for links in a range of locations:

* **Page descriptions** - Each Facebook Page has an intro section that can include a description with a link. Additional you can customize the description in your page cover photo to include a link.
* **Posts and comments** - Being able to include links anywhere you can create text is extremely powerful. This includes on your own feed, groups, and even *comments in Facebook Reels*.
* **Story** - When creating a Facebook story, you can choose to include a link.
* **DM** - If a user messages you or comments on your posts, you can send them a link via direct message.

# Cross Promoting Email & SMS

1send complements email and SMS marketing. Not replace it. **Different people respond differently to different channels**. Therefore, it's a good idea to have various communication methods. Different channels can be used for different purposes, messages, and urgencies.

A powerful method to create multiple touchpoints is to cross-promote your subscriber lists. For example, if you already have existing email and/or SMS list you can cross-promote your 1send subscription link to quickly boost your 1send subscribers. And vice-versa! &#x20;

|                                          Pro                                          |                  Con                 |
| :-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------: | :----------------------------------: |
|                                      Easy & fast                                      | Requires having a subscription lists |
| Mitigates risk of email or telecom providers banning your email domains or SMS number | Only reaches existing subscribers |
|                       Allows for multi-channel customer journeys                      |                                      |

# Offline QR code

### Situation

Picture this, you're the proud owner of a dessert shop. Shoppers enter your brick-and-mortar store and love your tasty treats, but you're having a difficult time converting them into repeat purchasers. They shop once, then never hear from you again. And soon, they forget about the value they once saw while browsing your shelves.

You'd love to shoot them a quick reminder, but collecting their contact information slows down checkout or discourages sales. You're likely wondering, how can I capture their attention and build a deeper relationship that lasts long after they exit the store?&#x20;

This can happen if you own a retail location, organize a pop-up, or attend an event and meet your customers offline.

The current method is to ask them to follow you on social media. However there's 2 issues:

1. Changing Feed algorithms might hide your content
2. You can't tailor messages to social media followers&#x20;

### Solution

This is where a 1send QR code comes in handy. A QR code is a square barcode that links to a URL of your choice. Because 1send has a 1-click subscription URL, customers can scan the code and instantly given the option for subscription. Making this a quick simple way to gain subscribers. Subscribers that you can DM immediately.

You can create a QR code using a number of online services. Add it to:&#x20;

* Posters
* At the register
* Flyers
* Thank you messages

With a quick scan of their phone, a shopper will sign up for your newsletter and cash in on any incentive you've offered.

### Advanced

QR code links can be customized for each event with special `ref` parameter. This allows 1send to tag subscribers based on the event they subscribed from. Doing so lets you send segmented campaigns specifically for subscribers that came from that event.

For example, a few days after participating in a pop-up, you can then send an exclusive promotion only to the people who came to your pop-up.

{% hint style="info" %}
This feature is currently in beta. Reach out to the 1send team if you are interested in creating customized QR codes for this purpose
